Meet our international students

BNIT welcomes students from every nation, fostering a multicultural richness and diversity at our campuses.

We provide international students with an authentic Australian educational experience, and equip them for careers in Australia and abroad.

We invite you to share their experiences.

Noriko Ayai - Certificate III in Companion Animal Services

Noriko Ayai

I am an Animal Services student at Brisbane North Institute of TAFE, Australia. I have always loved animals, and wanted to study animals in Australia. My college teacher in Japan told me about this course at Brisbane North Institute.

I love the course; we study nutrition, basic training, and the care of small animals like dogs, cats and birds and grooming - we actually clip dogs and wash dogs. Sometimes we help to examine animals and observe cats and dogs. I share a house with one Aussie and one Japanese girl at the moment.

When I've finished my course I want to find a job with animals, dog grooming or pet shop. Actually I want to be a dog trainer at the moment so maybe I'll do another course for dog trainer and find some work with dog trainers.

I came to study in Brisbane as it is a very nice city, and Brisbane North Institute of TAFE offered the Child care course I was looking for. The course is very good, we study about children, we go to childcare centres, play with children and study child behaviour in the classroom. I am really enjoying my course. There are some international students in my course but also a lot of Australian students and we all help each other.

Life in Brisbane is fun and easy to live in. It is easy to catch the bus and public transport. When I first arrived in Brisbane I stayed with a homestay family. I really enjoyed it and now that I'm living together with some Japanese friends I still keep in touch with my homestay family.

If anyone is thinking of coming to study in Brisbane, I would recommend it to them. There are many international students here and it is easy to live here and easy to study.

Myeong Jun LEE Korea - ELICOS

If someone wants to study here I would tell them BNIT is a very good place to learn English, the teachers are very helpful and kind and students are very friendly and outgoing. When I go back home, I will miss my teachers and friends.

Sachiko Mifune - ELICOS

My English class has about 10 students and we have all studied hard in a peaceful atmosphere. My classmates and teachers are very nice and I am enjoying it. Living in Brisbane is very peaceful, comfortable and beautiful. The people are very kind and very friendly.

I heard a lot about studying at TAFE from a friend who studied at TAFE before and it was quite interesting for me. I chose Brisbane North Institute because I preferred to go to a school that didn't have too many Japanese students as I really wanted to be sure I would learn English well and study with more locals. I also wanted to study in a city that was not too crowded.

In my course I'm learning about things we will need when we work in the tourism industry, such as how to make a reservation through the internet, the attractions of the world, customer service, communication, finance and so on. I found it interesting that we can learn about behind the scene things, like making a reservation on computers.

Brisbane is a very comfortable city to live and I wish I could keep living here. I especially like the markets on the weekend. The best thing about Australia is the nice weather and friendly people - especially in Brisbane.

My experience at BNIT has been really good. At first I was a bit anxious due to studying in another language, but I met other international students in the same boat - and they were really motivating. Plus the teachers were extremely supportive and understanding. They always took the time to explain and help if I needed it.

In the first few weeks I made a huge improvement in my English, grammar, confidence, work, professionalism and maturity in everything I was doing and this will help dramatically back home. It has shown me that there is always a way to improve and that will be my purpose now in everything I do. I've learned some great skills and increased my confidence - and it feels good!

I am really happy with the experience as it has made a huge difference to my confidence and BNIT has helped develop my people skills and international understanding, which is great for my business aspirations. I really like the international atmosphere and acceptance of other cultures at BNIT; you meet people you wouldn't necessarily meet elsewhere. It gives a lot of opportunities. I will miss it!

I think TAFE should be the first step for international students as they get so much support and university would not give the same attention.

Manish Gautum - Diploma of Information Technology (Networking)

I decided to come to Australia due to the increased opportunities it offered for study and the good economic situation. BNIT was recommended to me, and I'm very happy I came here.

BNIT has been really good; the teachers are excellent and so is the course. It was a bit tough in the beginning as it is very practical based and I was used to theory only, but now I have learned so much and it is great! Getting to actually work with the computers is very useful in my industry.

The teachers are very supportive and help us in everything. The people are definitely one of the best parts about BNIT and Australia - they are friendly, helpful and everyone smiles at each other. I would strongly recommend it to others as a very worthwhile experience.

Tomoko Ito - Certificate III in Children's Services, Diploma of Children's Services

I've been enjoying studying at BNIT as everything is well organised and the teachers are great! They are very fair and have a lot of teaching experience. Also, the international team always support us; I always ask for their help which they are more than happy to give every time.

Since studying at BNIT my knowledge has increased a lot, specifically in the area of the industry culture for children's services. Also, I have met many friends from all around the world and study together with them.

I love Australia: it is very multicultural, the people are great and laid back and there are big open spaces! Everyone has been very accepting of me and my culture. It's amazing and I want to stay here and work with preschool children and teach them Japanese.

Studying at BNIT was a fantastic experience. All the teachers were helpful and they did their best to give everybody the attention they needed. Not only my teachers but also the Learning Hubs (library) staff deserve the same honour. Whenever I needed help, they always helped me to find the information I needed. This is something I will never forget.

I got a job through the BNIT Access Team and life became a lot easier. Now I've finished my course, it is very hard to leave everyone at BNIT and I am very grateful to them all. I would definitely recommend BNIT to anybody who wants to study a skilled course in Australia - I promise it is really worthwhile.
